The kit is easy to fit and provides;

  • Self generating ignition which can operate without battary
  • Stable digital ignition with high energy 40Kv spark
  • Race system provided with lightweight rotor for improved engine response.
  • Similar advance to other 'period' systems (see Technical page)
  • Improved starting and fuel burning to increase engine performance
  • No machining required and no need to change engine casing
  • Both ignitions provide a 12V/100W DC output for road use
  • 24 month warranty

To check which ignition system you need, refer to the pictures below which illustrate the differnent cranks found on Yamaha 2-stroke machines supported.

TZ250/350 A to E

RD250/350/400 Aircooled A to D

YDS6/7, R5

These machines have a crankshaft with a taper 26.76mm long, starting at 19.54mm and ending at 14.15mm

The rotor on these models is retained with a 7mm bolt.

 

TZ250/350 F to G

RD250/400 E to DX

The rotor is secured to the crank with a nut, as shown.

The taper is 38mm long, starting at 24.74mm and ending up at 17.27mm

 

 Yamaha RD 250/350LC

The crankshaft taper is longer than the earlier RD aircooled machines. This picture shows the crank from a 4L1/4L0 machine.

We believe that this crank is the same for the 31K and N, F2 import.

 

4 Stroke Ignition Systems

 Shown below are the PowerDynamo 4 Stroke ignitions:

 SR500 Replacement ignition 
 XS650 Replacement Ignition 
 XS650 Replacement alternator 


XS650 has some limitations:

  • Does not support the original safety relay that prevents starting into an already running engine
  • Does not support any existing electronic revolution counter, (we have alternatives)
  • Has only 150 watts output, less electric power than the original alternator

The kit is easy to fit and provides;

  • Self generating ignition which can operate without battary
  • Stable digital ignition with high energy 40Kv spark
  • The switchable advance unit comes configured with 9 degree advance for starting to 38 degree at 3,000rpm.
  • Improved starting and fuel burning to increase engine performance
  • No machining required and no need to change engine casing
  • Both ignitions provide a 12V/100W DC output for road use
  • 24 month warranty
